It closed its initial public offering in December 2005 and was traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange. High Plains intends to employ in-situ leach mining technology to produce its uranium. In-situ mining, or "solution mining," recovers uranium from underground bodies without disrupting the character of the rock strata or land surface. The mining technique is designed to make other land uses, such as agriculture, also possible. The company was acquired by Energy Metals Corporation effective January 12, 2007, and delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange.
